                                  You must compete

You must compete

said the chancellor,

this will make us rich,

the envy of the world.

You must compete

said the financier,

this will make us rich,

the leaders of the world.

.

You must compete

said the politician, then

we need not care

when things go wrong,

it’s not our fault.

We must compete

said the contractor,

and we cannot care

for those deprived,

it’s not our fault.

,

We must compete

said the farmer,

we may turn earth to dust

making food for obesity, but

it’s not our fault.

.

We must compete

said the arms man,

our weapons may destroy

people, countries, the world, but

it’s not our fault.

.

We must compete

said the polluter, we will make

oceans acid to kill all fish, and

climate too hot for humans, but

it’s not our fault.

,

They must compete

said the community,

if this is humanity’s

final century

it’s not our fault.
